Gunite vs Shotcrete

Shotcrete vs Gunite: What is the Difference?

We believe in providing reliable construction backed by quality products. Because we are licensed, concrete experts as well as custom pool designers, we understand the benefits of working with specific mix of concrete that will ensure a stronger, more durable pool!

Concrete pools can be made of either shotcrete or gunite. The difference is when the concrete mixes with the water:

Shotcrete refers to a wet mix concrete. The whole cement-sand-aggregate blend is already mixed with water when it arrives at your backyard.
Gunite refers to a concrete applied with the dry-mix process. It remains water free until moments before builder actually applies it.

While there are advantages and some disadvantages to both methods, at Paradium Pools we prefer to pour pools using Shotcrete. Here are the main reasons why:

  1. It forms a stronger, more consistent coating
  2. Shotcrete has a higher compressive strength
  3. Allows for more "free form" applications and versatile pool designs
  4. Durability to withstand any environment
  5. Cuts down on time and cost
  6. Eco-friendly version of concrete
